'You have secret dreams, follow them! Make them come true.’
A mother’s whispered words set in motion a poignant true story. A story of the inspiring journey of a poor peasant boy plucked from the harsh world of rural China during the cultural revolution and thrust into the world of international dance stardom.

From Madam Mao’s Beijing Dance Academy at age 11, through to his dramatic defection to America and lastly as a principal in the Australian Ballet in 1995. Li Cunxin’s inspirational courage is theatrically captured using music, spoken word, vivid imagery and dance.

Graeme Murphy, inspired by his friend and dance colleague Li Cunxin, along with composer Katy Abbott will bring through audience interaction an insight into the author’s charming children’s book: The Peasant Prince—creating an experience to stimulate the senses.

This touchingly intimate tale is proudly presented by the
Adelaide Symphony Orchestra.
