December 2011
Grammy award winning British vocal ensemble, The King’s Singers will make their debut with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra as part of their national tour in February 2012. The group will perform two concerts on Friday 10 February, 8pm and Saturday 11 February, 8pm at the Festival Theatre.
Conducted by Ollivier-Philippe Cunéo, the performances will feature popular contemporary songs from the group’s recent release, Swimming over London, plus a wonderfully varied program of classical, jazz and pop favourites including hits from Michael Buble to The Beatles and songs such as Over the Rainbow, It don’t Mean a Thing, It’s a New World and a capella works.
The concert in Adelaide will be the group’s first official performance with recently appointed member, New Zealand born baritone Christopher Bruerton. “For me, as a Kiwi, it was a privilege to even sing with The King’s Singers once, let alone twice at the auditions. When I got the call back I was just stoked to have made it that far… Then they offered me the job and I was astonished!” said Bruerton.
With a vast repertoire that ranges from medieval to renaissance, romantic to contemporary, folk and pop, The King’s Singers are instantly recognisable for their spot-on intonation, their impeccable vocal blend, the flawless articulation of the text and incisive timing. Described by Gramophone Magazine as “enchanting the ear from first to last note”, The King’s Singers are renowned as consummate entertainers; a class-act with a delightfully British wit.
With a prolific discography of over 150 recordings and with over two million pieces of sheet music in circulation, The King’s Singers have garnered awards and significant critical acclaim. Their studio album Simple Gifts won a Grammy in 2009 and they won Best Concert DVD at the MIDEM Classical Awards in 2010. The groups new CD High Flight has just been released.
The long term line up of David Hurley (countertenor), Timothy Wayne-Wright (countertenor), Paul Phoenix (tenor), Christopher Gabbitas (baritone), Jonathan Howard (bass) will be joined by Christopher Bruerton.
The King’s Singers tour of Australian and New Zealand in February 2012 will be the group’s first visit since 1984.
