Graham Abbott - Conductor

Britten - Suite on English Folk Tunes Op 90

ABC Classic FM’s Graham Abbott teams up with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra to present a special Keys To Music in January. Graham explores Benjamin Britten’s Suite on English Folk Tunes Op 90 (“A time there was…”), the composer’s last orchestral work written in 1974.

In this piece Britten beautifully explores the loss of innocence, the enduring theme of so much of his work, and creates five very different musical tapestries based on old English tunes.

Abbott says, “Britten’s Suite is a dark work. Each of the five movements takes a very different emotional journey. It is dedicated lovingly and reverently to the memory of Percy Grainger. It's sensitive and touching, and we're going to look at the music from the inside out and perform the whole work complete in this one-hour concert."

Presented in association with ABC Classic FM.

All tickets $20 including morning or afternoon tea with Graham! Bookings through ASO 8233 6233 or at the ASO, 91 Hindley St, Adelaide
