In a coup for the ASO, and part of the orchestra’s 2009 Gala Series, José Carreras will
perform in Adelaide for the first time since the Three Tenors burst onto the world stage.
This will be a rare opportunity to hear one of the most definitive voices of our time as
José Carreras appears live at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre (intimate mode) with
the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra.
"In the past this kind of event would have been staged by major entrepreneurs, while
today the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra is best placed to bring together these two great
musical forces”, said ASO Chief Executive Rainer Jozeps.
José Carreras is a hero of the music world. As one of the finest tenors of his generation,
he is also an outstanding musician and has appeared with the world’s greatest
orchestras, as well as appearing in such venues as La Scala, Milan, the New York Met,
the Royal Opera House, and the Vienna Staatsoper.
"Every time I step on stage, I feel great joy” - José Carreras.
As a performer, he has created definitive interpretations of the great romantic roles of
Verdi, Puccini and Donizetti, not to mention becoming a global household name as one
of the Three Tenors, including Luciano Pavarotti and Placido Domingo, which saw all
three find new audiences outside mainstream opera.
Renowned for his humanity both on and off the concert stage, Carreras presides over
the José Carreras Leukaemia Foundation, raising funds to combat the devastating
disease that nearly took his life.
On stage he is known for his multiple encores and stage presence which have earned him a reputation as one of the most humble and generous performers of his generation.
"Mr. Carreras will conjure a new world for every song as he sings great moments from
opera, musical theatre hits, and his own selection of Spanish and Italian love songs to
melt the heart. "It will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience an artist who has
dominated the stage for over four decades”, said Rainer Jozeps.
José Carreras and the ASO is a taste of things to come for the orchestra’s 2009 program.

More than just a popular songstress, Roberta Flack is one of the most sophisticated and enchanting voices in popular music. Celebrated for such chart-topping hits as Killing Me Softly, The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face and Jesse she will make her first ever appearance in Adelaide with the ASO.
Four Grammy Awards, 30 internationally charted singles, a place in Hollywood’s Walk of Fame … the mere statistics and accolades are legendary but what is even more miraculous is how her unique style effortlessly transcends fads and fickleness and is joyfully rediscovered by successive generations. Audiences laugh, cry and invariably call for more.
The Adelaide Convention Centre has great flexibility and versatility in transforming the space for multi purposes, all within a matter of hours. The Convention Centre has capacity for our larger scale events, equipped with the latest technology and facilities. With the centre’s picturesque surrounds and the music making of the ASO, audiences can enjoy a magical night out in the heart of Adelaide’, said ASO Marketing and Development Manager Vicky Lekis.

Lior and the ASO
Ben Northey, Conductor
Adelaide Botanic Gardens
Saturday 14 February, 7.30 pm
North Terrace and Plane Tree Drive.
Gates open 6.00 pm.
The beautiful Adelaide Botanic Gardens are the perfect setting for this Valentine’s Day concert featuring Lior.
Lior's collaboration with the ASO represents the first time he has collaborated with an orchestra in a live setting. "Performing live with an orchestra is something I’ve always wanted to do. Performing live with the ASO, who are the most open minded and progressive orchestra in the country is a real buzz”, Lior said.
Lior - burst on to the music scene in 2005 with his debut album - "Autumn Flow". The album was released entirely independently and went on to become one of the most successful independent debut releases in Australian music history. The songwriter's music resonated with people in a very powerful and real way with songs such as 'This Old Love' and 'Daniel' connecting with people in a way that very few songs have managed to do.
Lior followed up with his second album - "Corner of an Endless Road" - earlier this year. The album remained at the top of the Independent charts for several weeks, and was followed by a sold out national tour. This represented a continuation of his ever growing popularity and success, built upon being a true and organic artist.
Let Lior romance you and someone you love with his blend of lyricism and melody. Bring your own picnic hamper or take advantage of the onsite catering available.
