Adelaide Symphony Orchestra is set to rock on in a symphonic spectacular showcasing Aussie rock legends The Angels in Symphony of Angels, 28 July, Festival Theatre.

The Angels are one of Australia’s legendary rock and roll bands, with their career spanning four decades. This Adelaide exclusive will see the band celebrate the 40th Anniversary of their sophomore album Face to Face.

Your ASO will perform a 30 song extravagant production of their greatest works with choir.

Under musical direction from maestro Rob John, the orchestra will be joined on stage by Brewster Brothers, John and Rick; Nick Norton; and Sam Brewster (John Brewster’s son).  The concert will featuring more than 35 musicians on stage and a choir, the evening will be hosted by master of ceremonies Peter Goers as guide through the band’s legacy.

Dave Gleeson, inductee in the SA Hall of Fame and affable front man and lead singer of The Angels can’t wait to perform this exciting Showcase Series concert, “Adelaide will always be a special place for us as the birth place for the band, and we can’t wait to play with one of the best orchestras in the country, the ASO”.

Rick Brewster says, “This is a very exciting opportunity. John and I grew up in a home filled with classical music and the influence has always been there in our own compositions. We have always believed our music would lend itself to the powerful atmosphere that an orchestra can provide. To do this in our home town is a bonus.”

Don’t miss this tribute to The Angels, in full symphonic sound, as we celebrate their music and the impact they have made on the Australian music industry in the Festival Theatre this July.

Adelaide Symphony Orchestra Managing Director Vincent Ciccarello said, “The Angels’ John and RickBrewster’s grandfather was one of the founders of the first Adelaide Symphony Orchestra. It is fitting the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra pays tribute to one of Australia’s greatest rock bands. Be prepared for a night of revelry as the ASO celebrates the Angels 40th Anniversary of their Face To Face album”.

The band has come a long way since they formed The Moonshine Jug and String Band in the early 70s. Their first band began with brothers, John and Rick Brewster, along with Bernard ‘Doc’ Neeson who they met while studying at Flinders University. In the late seventies Chris Bailey and Buzz Bidstrup joined the band, and they were soon renamed The Angels. Today they are fronted by the incomparable and charismatic front man Dave Gleeson.

It’s hard to believe, but it has been four decades since the release of The Angels sophomore album Face to Face. The seminal release firmly put the band on the map – both in Australia and internationally – spawning tracks that still hold an iconic place in Aussie music history such as Take A Long Line, Marseilles, After The Rain and Be With You, to name a few. The multi-platinum release was described as a ‘watershed’ for the band and changed the way Australian bands toured.

Take A Long Line is one of The Angels most loved songs. It was a smash hit for the Face to Face album, peaking in the national single charts at #26 and remaining there for a massive 29 weeks. The album itself remained in the charts for a year-and-a-half – an impressive achievement for a band on their second release, and one who, unbeknown to them at the time, would create the musical soundtrack of a generation.

The ASO is a world-class symphony orchestra. In addition to presenting classic repertoire the orchestra has a reputation for its Showcase Series of concerts that embraces popular contemporary music. Don’t miss this exciting concert in the series for 2018.
