Unsung Hero - North Adelaide

Hew Wagner - Tenor

Edgar Tattersall (1892-1948) was an intriguing figure. A WWI soldier who embarked to Egypt aboard S.S Canberra in 1917 and upon his return in 1919 was variously a clerk, a music teacher and composer. During his time Tattersall penned works under various aliases such as Dale Braihe, Rowley Angas, The Hermit, Ivan Borowski, and Sundown.

In this special concert presentation, we celebrate the music of this brilliant but largely forgotten South Australian composer with re-imaginings of a selection of his original songs, marches and dance compositions for an ensemble of 8 musicians and voice.

The Unsung Hero tour forms part of a larger initiative funded by the Federal Government through the Australian Research Council Linkage grant scheme, and the State Library of South Australia. The 'Beyond the Stage' project explores the ways that the creative arts can shape our understanding of history, and South Australian society during and immediately after World War One.

Project partners include the University of Adelaide, State Library of SA, Flinders University, Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, State Opera of SA, State Theatre Company of SA, and the Adelaide Cabaret Festival.
