Australia’s most highly awarded soprano, Emma Matthews has performed all the leading lyric coloratura soprano roles with Opera Australia and across Australia, including the title roles in The Cunning Little Vixen (Royal Opera House, Covent Garden and Opera Australia), Lulu, Lakmé, Lucia di Lammermoor and Partenope; Violetta (La traviata), Gilda (Rigoletto), Cleopatra (Giulio Cesare), Juliette (Roméo et Juliette), Marie (La Fille du Regiment), Konstanze (Die Entführung aus dem Serail), Amina (La Sonnambula), the four heroines (The Tales of Hoffmann), Leila (Les Pecheurs de Perles) and Rosina (The Barber of Seville).

She is equally at home on the concert platform in the Requiems of Mozart, Brahms and Fauré, Mahler’s Symphony No. 2, masses by Poulenc, Haydn and Mozart, and Handel’s Messiah with the leading symphony orchestras. Emma has also appeared as special guest with José Carreras, at the New Year’s Eve Gala concerts for Opera Australia and in From Broadway to La Scala. Upcoming engagements include Brahms Requiem with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, and recitals for the Perth International Arts Festival.

Head of Classical Voice and Opera Studies at the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts, Edith Cowan University, Emma appears on DVD with Opera Australia as Violetta and Lakmé, and can be heard on Emma Matthews in Monte Carlo (Deutsche Grammophon/ABC Classics), Mozart arias and Agony and Ecstasy (both ABC Classics).
