Legendary Australian artist Dan Sultan will bring down the curtain on the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra’s (ASO) exemplary 2024 season when he teams up with the orchestra in a spellbinding one-night-only collaboration at the Festival Theatre on Saturday 14 December 2024.
The occasion celebrates the 10th anniversary of his blockbuster ‘Blackbird’ album and follows the First Nations artist’s string of standing ovations at this year’s NAIDOC festivities in Melbourne.
It’s his debut performance with the ASO and, he says, a dream come true.
“I’m so excited to be working with the ASO,” he says, adding that “putting this show together is all a bit of a dream and I can’t wait for us all to perform in Adelaide’s gorgeous Festival Theatre and treat local audiences to my many songs.”
Conducted by Aaron Whyatt, with orchestral arrangements from Alex Turley and featuring original artwork from Dan Sultan’s longtime collaborator Jarra Karalinar Steel, this triumphant event will showcase Dan’s wide-ranging talent as a songwriter and performer.
The ‘Blackbird’ album has been billed as “the simple journey of a man singing about love, desire and identity” and epitomises everything a good Australian rock album should be, bursting with powerhouse riffs met by crackling gospel interludes, rock and roll and soul jams, pure country tones and bare, aching ballads and harmonies.
ASO CEO Colin Cornish adds that it’s a fitting close to what has been an exceptional 2024 season.
“We are thrilled our final performance of the year will be a powerful and memorable collaboration with the extraordinary Dan Sultan. This partnership marks a fitting close to our 2024 season and I cannot imagine a better way to close out an incredible year.”
