Greg Rush

Born in Sydney, raised in Lithgow NSW. Took an interest in drums after joining the high school cadet band. Joined the Australian Army in 1968 as an apprentice musician. Graduated in 1969 winning the Allans medal for musical proficiency.

Posted to the Army band in Adelaide and began lessons with Richard Smith who was then the ASO’s timpanist and a founding member of the ASO.

Successfully auditioned in 1974 for the newly-created second percussion position in the ASO and has held the position since.
