Hendrik Vestmann

Hendrik Vestmann has been General Music Director at the Oldenburgisches Staatstheater since the beginning of the 2016/17 season, where he conducts works including Wagner’s Ring Cycle. At the Komische Oper Berlin he has conducted the German premiere of Tales from the Vienna Woods, as well as The Magic Flute, Carmen and Le nozze di Figaro.

Born in Tartu, Estonia, Vestmann received his musical training at the Estonian Academy of Music in Tallinn, and under Wolf-Dieter Hauschild at the Musikhochschule Karlsruhe. He has conducted numerous orchestras, such as the MDR Sinfonieorchester, the NDR Radiophilharmonie, the Hamburger Symphoniker, Düsseldorfer Symphoniker, Bochumer Symphoniker, Nürnberger Symphoniker, Tamperen Philharmonic Orchestra (Finland) and the Philharmonisches Orchester Graz. In 2006, he won the Hermann Abendroth Prize, and was a finalist and prize-winner in the German Conductors’ Award at the Berliner Philharmonie.

Hendrik Vestmann was the General Music Director in Tartu, First Kapellmeister and Deputy General Music Director at Theater Münster, and Head Conductor at Oper Bonn. He has been a guest conductor at Theater St. Gallen, Theater Aachen, the Nationaltheater Mannheim, Oper Graz, in Hannover, and in 2012 with the Duisburger Philharmoniker on their tour of Istanbul.
