Work Experience

The ASO offers a work experience program for students twice per year, focusing on arts administration and providing insights into the organisation’s operations, community engagement, and production processes.

What does work experience at the ASO involve?

During their time with the ASO, students will have the opportunity to meet with ASO staff and musicians, observe the ‘behind the scenes’ work that takes place prior to orchestral performances, and learn about the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra. Students will come away from their work experience placement with a broad understanding of the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra’s role as a leading South Australian performing arts organisation, connecting with the community through orchestral music.

Students will shadow ASO staff and observe the workplace, assisting with tasks as appropriate and completing activities related to their learning outcomes. Please be aware that the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra Work Experience program focuses on arts administration and will include a brief overview of and insight into learning and community engagement, artistic planning, production, marketing, and development.  The program does not focus on musicianship, orchestral performance, or the technical aspects of production. Whilst there may be opportunities during the placement to attend and observe orchestral rehearsals or interact with our musicians, the primary focus will be on arts administration.
