Stravinsky’s Dumbarton Oaks brims with virtuosity: full of intricate, sparkling classical detail expressed with clarity. Writing about his Trombone Concerto, Leopold Mozart once said: “in the absence of a good trombone player, a good violinist can play it on viola.” That certainly won’t be necessary as the ASO’s excellent Principal Trombone, Colin Prichard brings it to life as originally intended. Mozart adored Prague, its people and its spirit – his Symphony no 38 celebrates that. Premiered in Prague in 1787, it is rich in melodic and harmonic invention and remains one of the composer’s best-loved symphonies.
