About
“What the world really needs is more love and less paperwork” – Pearl Bailey
Truer words were never spoken, and, as if in response to Pearl’s pearl of wisdom, conductor Guy Noble has squeezed as much love as possible into Classics Unwrapped’s final fling of 2021. He and the ASO bring you looks of love from the smouldering (Bizet’s fiery Carmen) to the cynical (Mozart’s comedy of duplicitous lovers, Così fan tutte). They ask “Romeo, Romeo, where art thou?” in at least two different ways, thanks to the haunting music from Prokofiev’s ballet score and the dynamic sounds of Leonard Bernstein’s music from West Side Story. And what about love of one’s homeland? Well, here’s a Dvořák Slavonic Dance to show that, even if some love stories do end catastrophically, at least they got rhythm.
