Music to illuminate the darkness.
If a searing personal experience can be transformed into an extraordinary work of art, the result is Shostakovich’s Tenth Symphony, created in the shadow of Stalin’s Russia. This is powerful, raw, confessional music. Lili Bolanger’s Of a Sad Evening draws the audience into a dark, dramatic sound world of melancholy and introspection, before building to an impassioned conclusion. Adelaide’s own Andrew Bain, now Principal Horn of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, returns home for the World Premiere of a concerto written for him by one of Australia’s leading contemporary composers.
