About
Procession celebrates the musical alchemy created by a deep friendship between composer and virtuoso. In this 20-minute concerto, US violinist Jennifer Koh and US composer Missy Mazzoli’s 10-year partnership is on full display in a mesmeric, magical journey of dynamic intensity and exquisite harmony. The music builds to a ritual dance as the violinist guides us through the music like a powerful sorceress.
The adventure continues as more fantastic tales come to life in vivid orchestral colour with Rimsky-Korsakov’s legendary take on “One Thousand and One Nights”, Scheherazade. Fall under the spell of Scheherazade’s mysterious violin and be swept up in exotic stories of perilous sea voyages, mysterious princes and love.
The concert opens with The Oceanides, Sibelius’ swirling depiction of three oceanic landscapes: the tranquil ocean, an approaching storm, and a thunderous wave-crashing climax, capturing the power and majesty of the Baltic Sea.
Don’t miss Fantastical Journeys, a musical highlight of the 2023 Adelaide Festival in association with Adelaide Symphony Orchestra.
