The sun rises, the first clear note of a trumpet rings out, and the orchestra bursts forth in triumph. Richard Strauss’ Also sprach Zarathustra is forever associated with the awe-inspiring opening of Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey – a vast cinematic vision of the Earth and beyond.
Paul Dukas’ The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, a little more playful in its magic, inspired another silver-screen hit: Walt Disney’s Fantasia, unimaginable without the wit and brilliance of Dukas’ magical score. And between these two shining masterpieces, Australian String Quartet violinist Dale Barltrop joins the ASO for the World Premiere of award-winning Australian composer Jack Symonds’ Violin Concerto.
The commission and World Premiere of Jack Symonds’ Violin Concerto is generously supported by Kim Williams AM.
