Fall under the spell of Scheherazade. With her life at stake, the heroine spins a thousand and one stories to keep a wicked king captivated, each one buying her another night. Rimsky-Korsakov portrays the storyteller’s voice in a silken violin, while the orchestra weaves the tapestry of enchanting tales. Across turbulent seas, through fiery battles, and not without a dash of romance, Rimsky-Korsakov’s music speaks as vividly as words.

From his opera Nixon in China, John Adams’ fantastical dreams leap into the wonderfully absurd. These two tales bookend Bruch’s magnificent Violin Concerto No.1, played by Australian rising star violinist, Beatrice Colombis.

Beatrice Colombis‘ ASO début is generously supported by Sally Gordon.
