Musical worlds meeting in harmony
Step into the wide open spaces of the American prairies. Hushed strings form a soft blanket of sound, and the tender song of the cor anglais emerges – Dvořák’s symphony embraces the spirit of the New World with a big heart. There’s more emotional generosity in the swirling orchestral showpiece by another Eastern European master, Kodály. His Dances of Galánta are a slow burn – beginning with delicate woodwind solos culminating in fast-paced excitement for the whole orchestra. Journey to another new world with the premiere of a concerto by a rising star in the world of Australian composition, Anne Cawrse.
