Britten’s feather-light arrangement of music by Mahler tantalisingly captures the fleeting beauty of nature. And Dvořák’s pastoral and triumphant Symphony No.8 reflects on the delicate balance between nature and humanity. In between, Shostakovich’s razor-sharp Cello Concerto No.1 asks what the balance should be between an individual and society, and we unveil a new commission from Jakub Jankowski, one of our most imaginative young composers.
Generously supported by Patrons of Jakub Jankowski:
Friends of South Australian Arts (a sub-fund of Australian Communities Foundation supported by Foundation SA), Dr Lynn Charlesworth and Garry Roberts, Sharron and Tom Stubbs and an anonymous donor.
With thanks to the visionary patrons of our Chief Conductor: Lang Family Foundation, Nunn Dimos Foundation, Joan Lyons and Diana McLaurin.
